Our work provides a critical contribution to the operations and business of nuclear power plants around the world. Our team of 15 nuclear design engineers within the EMEA Fuel Engineering department brings a broad range of expertise—from our main focus on core design for PWR and VVER reactors to project coordination, criticality calculations, and software validation. Your contribution to a carbon-free future As a Senior Nuclear Design Engineer, your main responsibility is to lead and support the development of nuclear fuel designs for manufacturing, and to simulate the performance of reactor cores operating with our fuels. This is done to ensure that all safety margins are met while fully utilizing the fuel's capacity. Among other things, this means that you will: Lead and contribute to the optimization of fuel utilization and assurance that the safety and regulatory requirements are fulfilled. Collaborate with engineers in criticality analyses, thermal hydraulics, fuel rod design, mechanical design and safety analyses. Participate in methods and software development. Document analyses in reports. Mentor junior engineers and coordinate design activities with diverse teams. Validation and quality assurance of the core simulator codes and tools that we use and develop internally. Take lead in customer interactions and project planning Examples of customer projects that you can be involved in as a nuclear design engineer are cycle-specific safety analyses, development of the nuclear design for manufacturing, review of core loading plans and patterns developed by the customer, licensing of fuel and business quotes. You will be positioned in Västerås, Sweden, with a hybrid work schedule. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in nuclear design Experience as Lead Nuclear Designer for PWR plants Master or Bachelor of Science in nuclear engineering, energy systems engineering, engineering physics or equivalent education. Fluent in English, both written and spoken Experience writing reports Meritorious Westinghouse ND03 qualification Experience with software testing and validation in a nuclear context Experience from nuclear design in a commercial or regulatory environment Good knowledge in Swedish Experience in the field of analysis Experience from the nuclear industry We look forward to meeting you! We are around 2000 engineers globally and competence within several areas such as structural analysis, thermohydraulic, chemistry, components and safety analysis that contributes with engineering expertise to multiple projects here at Westinghouse. As a Safety Analysis Engineer, you will help examine that our BWR reactors meets the safety requirements set by Westinghouse, our customers, and authorities in different countries. We are working on a large market around the world. You will join a team of nine Safety Analysis Engineers. This means that you will learn from other experienced engineers and develop quickly in your role. Your contribution for a carbon-free future As a Safety Analysis Engineer, your main responsibility will be to manage calculations and conduct safety analyses of BWR reactors. Among other things, this means that you will: Perform simulations and analyse the response in BWR reactors based on different cases and scenarios Conduct safety analyses considering current and new legal requirements Document your work in reports You will work in project-based teams in close collaboration with project managers and other Safety Analysis Engineers. The work is carried out using our internally developed computer codes BISON and POLCA-T. You will either be based at our Swedish headquarter in Västerås or at our office in Helsinki, Finland. There is a possibility to work remotely several days per week. We are looking for you To be a good match for this role, we believe that you either have several years of relevant working experience or you are recently graduated and motivated to grow. You have an eye for details and you are structured in the way you approach tasks and enjoy solving theoretical problems. To grow in this role, we also believe that you are communicative and enjoy collaborating with other people. Qualifications Master of Science in Engineering Physics, or similar that provides a technical and theoretical foundation. Programming skills, meritorious with knowledge in Python Experience working in Linux/Unix environment Full professional proficiency in English Full professional proficiency in Swedish is meritorious but not a requirement for this role.
