We are looking for a Content specialist to join our Drug Dictionary Management team within the Portfolio and Product Management department at UMC on a temporary, full time basis. The position will last a year, starting in the second half of August. About the role The Drug Dictionary Management team comprises health professionals with advanced education in the science of pharmacy who support the development and maintenance of the WHODrug portfolio, including WHODrug Global, the world’s most widely used drug dictionary. They ensure all information therein meets the highest quality standards, complies with regulations, and meets customer expectations in close cooperation with the WHODrug Portfolio management. The team is also involved in the development of processes and systems regarding generation of Pharmaceutical product ID (PHPID) and Global substance ID following the ISO Identification of medicinal products (IDMP) standards. What you will do - Validate and classify drug information to ensure the completeness, accuracy and consistency of the data so that it meets the quality standards expected for WHODrug Coding of reported drugs in individual case safety reports and in clinical trials. - Take part in improvements to ways of working within the team. Who you are Do you have a MSc in Pharmacy, a knowledge of medicinal products as well as excellent written and oral skills in English? You may be the person we are looking for. It is an advantage if you also have: - Knowledge of classification of medical products including ATC classification. - An understanding of good coding practises and knowledge in pharmacology. - Experience working in the field of pharmacovigilance, product information, or a regulatory agency. - Knowledge of herbal medicine. - Knowledge of other languages. Since 1978, Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) has been dedicated to developing, supporting, and expanding the field of pharmacovigilance science and practice. As a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre, UMC operates the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring, supporting over 180 member countries and regions in strengthening safety surveillance of medicines and vaccines, and maintains VigiBase, the WHO global database of adverse event reports. We are a diverse, international group of pharmacists, physicians, data scientists, system developers, communicators, and many other professionals motivated by a deep belief that the work we do matters. About the role The WHO Liaison department has over 20 staff members with diverse skill sets and backgrounds, divided into three sections: Signal Management, Education & Training, and Surveillance Implementation & Strengthening. You will join the Signal Management section, which consists of eight specialists with educational backgrounds in medicine or pharmacy. What you will do With support from UMC’s Research department, the Signal Management section regularly screens VigiBase to detect safety signals. A signal can be defined as information which suggests a new potentially causal association or a new aspect of a known association between a medicine or vaccine and an adverse event. UMC’s signals are primarily intended to alert and inform the national pharmacovigilance centres and regulatory authorities within the Programme for International Drug Monitoring. These organisations are responsible for evaluating the information received and deciding on further action at a national level. As Signal Management Specialist, you will: - Perform the clinical assessment of case series related to signals, including causality assessment and reviewing the scientific literature for additional evidence. - Critically review the signal assessments performed by your team members. - Disseminate the findings, including publishing in the WHO Pharmaceuticals Newsletter and peer-reviewed scientific journals as well as presenting at scientific conferences. - Share your expertise in collaborations with other sections and departments within UMC, such as Education & Training and Research. - Work closely with WHO’s Pharmacovigilance team and assist them in providing support to the WHO advisory committees on the safety of medicinal products (ACSoMP) and vaccines (GACVS). This is a full-time position based at UMC’s office in the centre of Uppsala, Sweden. The office is conveniently located three minutes away from the railway and bus stations. Who you are You: - Are a medical doctor (MD, MSc) or pharmacist (PharmD, MSc) with recent experience in healthcare, research or pharmacovigilance. - Have a strong analytical capability and interest. - Are proficient in scientific writing, with an eye for detail. - Are fluent in written and spoken English. - Are proactive and capable of driving activities to completion. - Like to collaborate with team members and other stakeholders. - Enjoy contributing to a positive and nurturing work environment.
