Product Development Senior Engineer – Situational Safety

We are now looking for an experienced Product Development Senior Engineer to lead the development and execution of safety strategies for next-generation interior safety technologies. In this role, you will drive safety activities from concept through production release, working across engineering disciplines to deliver innovative solutions that help protect vehicle occupants worldwide. Role and Responsibilities Define safety goals, hazard analyses, misuse scenarios, and mitigation strategies. Lead the development and maintenance of safety cases, including claims, arguments, and supporting evidence. Drive system architecture and safety decomposition for interior safety functions. Establish safety milestones, release gates, and acceptance criteria. Partner with Human Body Modeling & Simulation teams to translate insights into safety solutions. Coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering, validation, human factors, and systems engineering. Manage safety risks, escalations, audits, and customer assessments. Align global requirements across Europe, North America, China, and Japan. Support customer reviews and promote innovative interior safety technologies. What You’ll Bring Bachelor's or master’s degree in engineering or a related field. 10+ years of experience in automotive safety, systems engineering, electronics, or mechatronics. Strong knowledge of vehicle passive safety regulations and industry standards, including ISO 26262 and NCAP. Deep understanding of occupant protection, safety mechanisms, and system-level design. Proven track record of delivering safety cases and leading release governance in production programs. Ability to actively contribute to and lead technical workshops and decision-making forums. Experience leading cross-functional teams in a global engineering environment. Strong documentation and presentation skills. Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English. Who Are You? We are now looking for an experienced Simulation Engineer to lead the development and operation of a high-fidelity virtual validation platform for next-generation interior and occupant safety systems. In this role, you will play a key part in accelerating product development and delivering release-grade safety evidence through advanced simulation methodologies Role and Responsibilities Design and maintain end-to-end XiL environments (SiL, HiL, DiL/ViL) for safety-critical functions. Integrate vECUs (AUTOSAR Classic/Adaptive), environment models, and CI/CD pipelines. Develop and execute scenario-based validation, including edge cases and misuse scenarios. Generate synthetic scenarios using tools such as NVIDIA Omniverse, CARLA, and Human Body Models (HBM). Validate and correlate simulation models against physical test data. Automate simulation execution, regression testing, evidence generation, and reporting. Support functional safety activities and maintain traceability in accordance with ISO 26262 and SOTIF. What You’ll Bring Bachelor's or master’s degree in engineering or a related field. 8+ years of experience in automotive simulation, ADAS/active safety validation, vehicle dynamics, or XiL environments. Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, and experience with Git, Jenkins, and Docker. Hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink, dSPACE, and scenario-based testing. Knowledge of AUTOSAR, CAN/CAN-FD, Automotive Ethernet, and CANalyzer. Experience with simulation automation, virtual ECUs, and safety-critical development environments. MISSION Own the system and electronics engineering of a wearable airbag vest ECU, from architecture definition through industrialization and manufacturing release. The role combines system engineering ownership and electronics design leadership for an existing product platform that will evolve across multiple generations, with increased functionality, connectivity, and performance. The objective is to deliver safe, robust, manufacturable, and evolvable ECU solutions that meet functional, safety, cost, quality, and planning requirements for a critical safety application. The role acts as the technical reference, working closely with the Project Manager, hardware and software teams, industrialization, suppliers, and validation teams. In addition, the System lead will be the main technical contact for the Product teams and will work on the integration with them. The team is located in France & Sweden mainly. Travel to France, China, US & other countries is expected regularly (Several times a year) KEY RESPONSIBILITIES System & Product Architecture Define, maintain, and evolve the ECU system architecture across generations (sensing, processing, power, safety interfaces, connectivity, updates) Perform functional analysis including safety and cybersecurity Define system modularity, interfaces, constraints, and services, Ensure architectural consistency across hardware, embedded software, and connectivity (mobile gateway & cloud interfaces) Own the technical roadmap for future product generations Electronics Design Leadership Lead and approve key electronics design choices (MCU/SoC, sensors, power architecture, connectivity modules, safety‑critical circuits) Identify technical risks and design hard points and define mitigation actions Validate design results with hardware and software leads Ensure compliance with cost, power consumption, robustness, and environmental constraints specific to wearable products Development Process, Safety & Compliance Apply suitable systems engineering methods, e.g., following the V‑cycle Ensure alignment with functional safety and quality processes Lead or contribute to risk and safety analyses (DFMEA, PFMEA, hazard analysis) Ensure full traceability from requirements to verification and validation Requirements & Documentation Define and approve system requirements, product specifications, and interface specifications Ensure consistency of system documentation (item definition, architecture, interfaces) Manage change impact analysis across variants and generations Maintain the design definition file for prototype and series production Connectivity, FOTA & Lifecycle (ECU Scope) Define ECU‑side architecture for secure connectivity and cloud interaction Own the FOTA strategy (architecture, safety, rollback, validation) Ensure long‑term maintainability and field robustness (Mobile app and cloud development are out of scope; ECU interfaces are in scope.) Project Manager – Wearable Airbag ECU Development Background Autoliv is driving a new era of rider protection by expanding advanced safety solutions beyond traditional airbags to protect more road users in more scenarios. As part of this mission, we are developing the next‑generation Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to enable smarter, faster, and more scalable safety systems. The ECU project Manager will play a pivotal role in delivering this ECU across a broader product portfolio, accelerating integration into new applications and vehicle platforms. This role directly contributes to Autoliv’s purpose: saving more lives through innovation Link. MISSION Lead and deliver the Next Wearable Airbag Electronics development projects across the full lifecycle, from product evolution and new generations to industrialization and series production. The Project Manager is accountable for planning, cost, quality, risk, and delivery, ensuring effective coordination between system engineering, electronics, embedded software, mechanics, validation, industrialization, suppliers, and operations. The role focuses on the embedded ECU product, its evolution and deployment in the field, while coordinating interfaces with wearables teams and working very closely with mobile application and cloud and crash detection teams. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Project Ownership & Planning Own ECU development projects covering product evolutions, new generations, and variants Define and control project scope, objectives, milestones, and deliverables Build and maintain the global project plan, managing dependencies and critical paths Manage project budget and resources (internal and external) Anticipate deviations and drive corrective actions Technical & Cross‑Functional Coordination Coordinate all technical contributors: System & Electronics Engineering, Embedded Software, Crash detection algorithms, Hardware Design, Mechanical Design, Validation & Test, Industrialization & Manufacturing, Mobile App & cloud. Role and Responsibilites As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be part of a growing team in Vårgårda developing advanced HVDC/MVDC applications that protect systems used for producing, storing, and converting electrical energy. These applications include energy transmission and converter stations, as well as energy storage systems, and more, both for medium- and high-voltage environments.
