Our flagship brand, Marshall, is uniquely positioned with over 60 years of rock 'n' roll attitude on stage, at home, and on the go. Our iconic products are brought to life by a dedicated team of 800 passionate employees and sold in over 90 markets worldwide. Right now, we need to strengthen our software team in Stockholm with a Backend Engineer who will take ownership of the backend foundation behind our connected products. We have been using external partners to handle our backend, and you will be the first person we bring in-house to do it. You will play a central role in building the infrastructure that enables our long-term ambitions around user accounts, device ecosystems, and seamless product experiences. This is the right role if you value autonomy and thrive where impact is real. What you'll do You will design, build, and run the backend services that power our mobile apps and connected devices, moving us from external providers into full internal ownership. Your work will span core APIs, authentication, device-related flows, and the cloud infrastructure that supports them. You will collaborate with mobile developers, firmware engineers, and product teams, delivering new features iteratively. As you build our backend capability, you will also modernize infrastructure, streamline deployments, and improve how we test and release software. Role & responsibilities • Build backend services that support mobile applications, connected devices, user accounts, and OTA updates • Design scalable cloud infrastructure with a strong focus on reliability, security, and maintainability • Lead the shift from manual configurations to infrastructure as code • Collaborate closely with mobile, firmware, and product teams to align backend capabilities with product needs • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement • Plan and execute the transition away from external backend provider Who we're looking for You are an independent backend engineer who enjoys tackling complex problems and building systems with a high degree of ownership. You are comfortable being the first backend engineer in the team while still collaborating closely with colleagues across mobile, firmware, and product. You communicate clearly, bring structure to ambiguity, and thrive in an environment where you both build and shape the technical foundation. You will be part of the software team, sitting within our R&D organisation (which we call Product). You probably have the following experiences and skills • Experience building backend services that support mobile apps, including APIs and authentication • Practical experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure • Confidence working with at least one modern backend language such as Python, Kotlin, Java, JavaScript or TypeScript • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated deployments • Experience with test automation in backend environments is a strong advantage We strive to foster an inclusive workplace and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, disability, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age or marital status. We firmly believe that Marshall thrives when our employees do, leading to better experiences for our consumers.
