Data Center Technician

As a Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT), you will stage, set up and perform hardware deployments. In addition, you will also perform troubleshooting and diagnostics on equipment, as well as perform hardware decommissions for simple changes and refreshes following Standard Operating Procedures. Response Responsibilities Performs diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures, quickly identifies the cause(s) of issues, and replaces faulty components with minimal customer and business disruption. Performs post-execution quality checks and verifies that grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling are set up properly according to safety protocols, deployment standards, and planned Network Design Tasks (NDTs). Decommissions hardware for simple changes and refreshes (e.g., memory upgrades, rebuilds) following standard procedures with minimal guidance. Follows procedures to communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate Microsoft data center operations management units, Technician Leads, and engineering specialists. Assists and provides guidance to other technicians to complete challenging or complex tasks. Completes required training aligned to the role and workload; observes more experienced technicians to gain hands-on experience and relevant on-the-job training. Contributes to a positive and effective team environment by sharing information with others, contributing to regular team meetings, asking questions, and staying apprised of the status of others' work. Has pride and a sense of accountability for the service quality, completeness, and resulting user experience; displays accountability and ownership of the data center facilities. Qualifications Required Qualifications: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components AND experience supporting IT equipment or related technology. Background Check Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications: 2+ years' experience supporting IT equipment or related technology. Applicable certifications: CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).

Overview As a Critical Environment Technician (CET) on Microsoft's Cloud operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will manage the critical infrastructure that keeps our Data Centers running and running as they should. This can mean anything from plumbing, electricity supply and distribution, and water supply. CO+I is the driving factor for our cloud and storage services. Responsibilities Serve as an operations specialist in a wide area of CE operation (e.g. electrical, mechanical, control systems, generators) and work independently on more advanced tasks. Inspect civil engineering equipment (e.g. control systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning [HVAC], mechanical systems), ensure that the area and buildings are checked regularly to ensure that standards and policies are being followed. Use internal entertainment systems (CMMS) to have an overview of equipment and to complete work order requests for maintenance work. To safely and promptly respond to and manage sudden events in the area such as unforeseen conditions affecting the business, and coordinate with other companies to carry out repairs. Improve, develop new or existing Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), Procedures (MOPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in relation to CE incidents. Under minimal supervision, perform various types of maintenance (e.g., planned, predictive, corrective) and repairs according to procedures (MOPs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for one or more types of equipment (e.g., electrical, mechanical, cooling systems) according to proper procedures. Have a practical understanding of how equipment works and how to troubleshoot equipment, systems, subsystems and components independently within their trained discipline. Provide consultation to lower-level colleagues in troubleshooting systems and problems. Understand, follow and ensure security requirements (e.g., job risk assessments [JHAs], environmental health and safety (EH&S), toolkits), business processes, and procedures to properly perform work in a safe, qualitative, and reliable manner within Microsoft requirements. Qualifications Mandatory/Minimum qualifications Completed upper secondary education, apprenticeship/vocational qualification or equivalent Strong experience in mission-critical jobs/applied apprenticeships (e.g. assembly/manufacturing/critical and high-availability infrastructure environments such as data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, manufacturing or related areas). OR equivalent experience.
