The Position We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Center of Excellence (CoE) for Advanced Analytics & AI within the Data, Analytics & AI Organization at Volvo Group Connected Solutions. The team provides insights for predicting and optimizing Volvo Group operations and generating value for our customers by applying advanced analytics techniques. We work with data from various sources, with an emphasis on position data from connected vehicles. As a Data Scientist in our team, your tasks will include the development and use of data processing/analysis pipelines: from data preparation to final presentation of results. You will work with statistics, machine learning and AI techniques and promote a data-driven workflow. As part of the Data, Analytics & AI organization, you will be working alongside experienced Data Scientists, Engineers, and Analysts, allowing for good opportunities to collaborate and share knowledge. You will also collaborate with a variety of other technical and business functions within the Volvo Group. The team is based in Lindholmen Science Park in the heart of Gothenburg. We employ a hybrid working setup and expect you to be in the office (at least) a couple of days a week. Your profile We are looking for someone who enjoys problem-solving and who is not afraid of complex challenges or unconventional approaches. You have a Masters degree in engineering, statistics, physics or a related area. In addition, you have at least a couple of years of applied experience within data science in the transportation sector. Experience of working with GPS and/or vehicle trip data is a strong plus. Within Data Science, you have a broad experience and are comfortable with applying a variety of tools and techniques such as classification, regression, clustering, time-series analysis, natural language processing, computer vision and statistics. You are comfortable working with Python and its standard tools for Data Science (such as Pandas and scikit-learn), as well as with SQL. A broad understanding of the wider data journey is considered a plus, and could include things like familiarity with dashboarding tools (such as PowerBI), data modelling and warehousing, or MLOps. We expect you to be able to comfortably lead projects and/or small teams of fellow Data Scientists to achieve high-quality deliveries, and see project management experience as a strong requirement. You have the ability to see the bigger picture and an interest in understanding the business context in which you work. You also have the communication skills to present results in a way that suits the audience, explaining complex topics in simple terms. We work in close cooperation with other SW development teams at Volvo GTT, contributing also to onboard diagnostics, after-treatment and electro-mobility functionality. We have many interesting challenges in front of us to develop control strategies and embedded SW solutions to drastically lower the emissions and fuel consumption from our future combustion engines. New functionality is needed to support the transfer from diesel engines to fossil free fuel for example hydrogen and biodiesel. We work according to agile principles with autonomous scrum teams, taking full responsibility for their deliverables. The teams work with development of system solutions, software design, implementation and verification of complete functions. Verification is performed in SIL, HIL as well as on engine or in vehicles. We are responsible for the entire development chain from early project phases to maintenance. Who are you?
