Mechanical Commissioning Engineer – Rotating Equipment Seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to commission turbines, generators, compressors, pumps, gearboxes, motors and auxiliary systems on major industrial plants. The role requires strong mechanical engineering and field-execution expertise across installation verification, preservation, alignment, lubrication and sealing, first rotation, dynamic testing, controls and protection interfaces, start-up, performance testing and handover. Work closely with Engineering, Construction, Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls, Completions, HSE, Quality, subcontractors, OEMs and Operations to deliver safe commissioning and reliable, fully documented handover. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Rotating Equipment Commissioning • Lead commissioning and start-up of turbines, generators, centrifugal, reciprocating and screw compressors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, fans and packaged auxiliaries. • Verify installation, foundations, hold-downs, soft foot, shaft/coupling alignment, piping strain, lubrication, seals, cooling, guards, preservation and reinstatement against approved drawings, vendor manuals and specifications. • Plan and conduct oil flushing, cleanliness checks, leak/pressure testing, bump/rotation checks, solo/uncoupled runs, first rotation, no-load/loaded testing, trip/interlock proving, vibration monitoring, performance testing and acceptance. Engineering and Design • Review data sheets, P&IDs, layouts, vendor drawings, cause-and-effect charts, control narratives and operating procedures for commissioning, operability, maintainability and safe access. • Resolve design, installation, alignment, lubrication, sealing, vibration, controls and protection issues with Engineering, OEMs and other disciplines during mechanical completion, commissioning and start-up. Planning, Scheduling and Completions • Develop commissioning plans, procedures, job cards, system/subsystem boundaries, resource requirements, schedules, daily priorities and look-ahead plans. • Use electronic completions systems for walkdowns, mechanical-completion verification, punch management, inspection/test records, handover certificates and turnover from Construction to Commissioning and Operations. Preservation and Equipment Management • Oversee receipt, storage and preservation, protecting equipment against corrosion, contamination, moisture ingress, brinelling and deterioration. • Confirm preservation release, lubricant condition, temporary-system removal, spares, special tools and vendor documentation before start-up and handover. Supervision, Contractors and Operations • Supervise and mentor engineers, technicians and work parties; assign tasks by competence and authorisation, monitor execution, deliver practical training and maintain disciplined shift handovers. • Coordinate subcontractors, OEMs, specialist vendors, Construction and Operations on work fronts, permits, method statements, resources, defects, repeat testing, training, spares and handover. Reporting and Documentation • Report daily/weekly progress, constraints, recovery actions and technical queries. Maintain procedures, check sheets, test results, vibration trends, alignment/flushing records, punch lists and vendor activity records. • Compile traceable turnover dossiers with signed inspection/test records, certificates, redlines, concessions, performance reports, Operations training records and final acceptance documentation. HSE, Quality and Compliance • Ensure compliance with project HSE requirements, permits, risk assessments, lock-out/tag-out, mechanical isolation, stored-energy controls, approved procedures, OEM limits, quality requirements and applicable legislation/standards. • Lead or participate in toolbox talks, task risk assessments and pre-start reviews. Verify exclusion zones, lifting arrangements, temporary systems and emergency controls; exercise stop-work authority and escalate unresolved technical or safety risks. QUALIFICATIONS Education Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, HNC/HND, recognised mechanical craft apprenticeship, or equivalent technical qualification supported by substantial relevant field experience. Experience • 10+ years’ mechanical commissioning experience on major oil and gas, power, petrochemical, process, steel or comparable industrial projects, with substantial recent rotating-equipment field responsibility. • Proven hands-on installation and commissioning of multiple complex turbine, generator and compressor packages, including alignment, lubrication/seals, first rotation, dynamic testing, controls/protection interfaces and acceptance testing. • Experience supervising personnel, coordinating subcontractors/OEMs, working with Operations, mentoring/training teams and using electronic completions systems. The Discipline Commissioning Engineer assists with the preparation, execution and management of the project commissioning activities associated with their discipline and for any discipline interface requirements. Create the weekly discipline work plan Input to the 30- and 60-day commissioning look-ahead plan Provide discipline progress reports against planned activities. Highlight any concerns about planned commissioning activities/plans Develop a breakdown of commissioning systems and limits of safe handover (LOSH) drawings. The Site Project Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the successful execution of the Stegra Hydrogen to Green Steel Project by overseeing the day-to-day administrative operations of the CSU (Commissioning and Start-Up) Site Team. This individual will be responsible for personnel management, logistics coordination, administrative reporting, and maintaining efficient communication channels between site personnel, Brunel and site management. The ability to support the technical team with interface documentation is critical. This role is viewed as an extension of the Brunel Europe Operations team and serves as the critical interface between site personnel, the Operations Team, and the ICE Management team. Key Responsibilities 1. Technical Document support Maintain and update document control systems and procedures for tracking and managing project documentation. Track documentation review and approval workflows to meet project deadlines 2. Key Responsibilities: Construction Inspections Management: Oversee all construction inspection activities to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements. Coordinate with engineering and construction teams to ensure timely and accurate inspections. Manage the documentation of construction inspections and ensure all records are maintained accurately for project and regulatory review. Mechanical Completions: Supervise the preparation and execution of Mechanical Completion checklists and ensure all systems are completed following project requirements. Validate the assembly and installation of mechanical components as per design specifications. Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning: Manage the development and execution of Inspection Test Records (ITRs) and Commissioning Test Procedures (CTPs). Ensure all pre-commissioning activities meet the planned objectives and systems are ready for commissioning. Lead the commissioning phase to ensure systems are operational, meet project standards, and comply with safety regulations. Documentation and Reporting: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation related to completions activities including test records, commissioning reports, and final handover documents. Prepare regular reports on the progress and status of completion activities for project management and stakeholders. Team Leadership and Collaboration: Lead a team of inspection and completions professionals, providing training and development as needed. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and client representatives to facilitate clear communication and resolve any issues arising during the completions phase. Quality Assurance and Control: Implement quality control protocols and standard operating procedures for inspection and testing activities. Ensure all project activities comply with legal, environmental, and health and safety standards. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 15 years of experience in project management or completions management within the EPCM environment, preferably in the green energy or steel manufacturing sectors. Proven track record of managing mechanical completions, pre-commissioning, and commissioning processes. Strong understanding of industry standards and regulatory compliance requirements. Excellent organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills. Desired Skills: Discrete knowledge and understanding of Completions, Systemisation, Commissioning & Start-up. Job Summary: The HSE Commissioning Lead / Manager will report to the Overall Commissioning, Start-Up (CSU) Manager and is responsible for developing and implementing HSEQ standards and procedures to ensure a safe and compliant commissioning process. This full-time role will require extensive experience in HSEQ management through construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and plant performance testing phases, with an emphasis on HSE in transition, Permit to Work (PTW), and incident prevention. Key Responsibilities: HSE Leadership: Provide strong leadership and guidance on all HSEQ matters during the commissioning and start-up phases, fostering a culture of safety and compliance across the project. HSEQ Planning: Develop and implement HSEQ policies, plans, and procedures specific to commissioning and start-up activities, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Risk Assessment: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and hazard identification (HAZID) for all pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities to minimize risks and prevent incidents. Permit to Work (PTW): Oversee the Permit to Work system, ensuring strict adherence and proper training for all personnel involved in commissioning and start-up. Ensure all PTW documentation is accurate and aligned with HSE standards. Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of HSEQ standards and regulations for commissioning and start-up Proficiency in PTW systems and risk assessment tools, including Bowtie, FMEA, or HAZOP Expertise in HSEQ management systems and software, such as Enablon, Intelex, or SAP EHS Strong technical writing and reporting skills for HSEQ documentation and incident investigations Familiarity with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 standards Preferred Qualifications/Skills: Advanced qualifications in HSEQ, Occupational Health and Safety, or a similar field Certification in HSEQ (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO Lead Auditor) Extensive experience in green energy or hydrogen-based projects Proficiency in Swedish is advantageous but not essential Strong background in safety transition management and incident investigation techniques Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field or Advanced qualifications in HSEQ or a similar discipline are preferred.
