The European Spallation Source (ESS) is a partnership of 13 European countries with the mission to design, construct and operate the world’s most powerful neutron source.

We are now looking to appoint a summer worker for the Superconducting Section for the Accelerator division, in collaboration with the Software Group of the ICS Division.

The Superconducting Section team is responsible for the reception, testing, installation and commissioning to operation of all superconducting cavities and cryomodules in the SRF Facility.

About the work

As summer worker as your main areas of work will be to help in the consolidation and improvement plan of the ESS Cavity Database. The DB was developed to receive a variety test datafiles from diverse project partners, and extended to capture test data at the ESS testing facilities. The current version is a collection of file-based python tools, but a consolidation based on a formal DB structure in the ESS Software environment is now needed for to support the incoming operation phases. Your goal would be to design such a structure and provide programmatical access for query and population.

About you

A suitable background for this work would be:


• Good knowledge of Database development and best practices
• Good knowledge of Python, Git, Linux OS
• Good written and oral communications skills in English

Duration & Location
The position is a summer worker position, of minimum 8 weeks, with possibility to extend to 12 weeks. 

Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. 

Start date
Planned start date is 3rd of June, 2024.
