We are looking for a hands-on Database Platform Engineer with strong database development skills and a passion for working with data systems in production. You will work closely with operations, engineering and data teams across the company, supporting MySQL and MongoDB environments while contributing to schema design, query optimization, and performance improvements. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both development and operational work. You will be involved in supporting live systems, handling data migrations and integrations, modernizing legacy systems and helping improve how data flows across the organization. A strong willingness to learn, take ownership, and grow in the areas of databases and data engineering is essential. The position offers the opportunity to develop into broader database and data platform responsibilities over time, contributing to the reliability, performance and evolution of our data systems. Responsibilities: Write, optimize and troubleshoot complex SQL queries and database operations. Contribute to database design, schema evolution and modernization of legacy database structures while working closely with developers to improve data models, application queries and overall database performance. Support large-scale data migrations, B2B integrations and live production changes with accuracy and attention to detail. Help maintain and improve real-time data pipelines and integrations between operational databases and analytics platforms. Collaborate openly across development, DevOps and Data teams while contributing to documentation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives. Support and maintain MySQL, MongoDB and related systems across development and production environments. Participate in performance tuning, troubleshooting, monitoring and operational improvements. Automate recurring operational and development-related tasks. Support deployments, releases, access management, change processes and incident handling. Continuously learn and contribute to modern database engineering and data platform practices. About you: Essentials: 2–5 years of experience working with MySQL and/or MongoDB. Exposure to cloud platforms (BigQuery, AWS, GCP). Strong database development skills with confidence writing, optimizing and troubleshooting complex SQL queries. Good understanding of database design principles, schema evolution and performance optimization. Strong interest in databases, data engineering and modern data platforms. Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work closely across development, BI/Data Warehouse and DevOps teams. Strong aptitude to learn, grow and take ownership in a hands-on engineering environment. Comfortable working with live production systems and operational environments. Experience with scripting or automation using Python, Bash or similar tools. Proactive, communicative and solution-oriented mindset. Proficient in English, both spoken and written. Assignment Overview Location: Uppsala, Sweden Work Model: Hybrid (initially majority onsite, with increased remote work possibilities over time) Start: As soon as possible Duration: Until December 2026, with the possibility of extension through December 2027 Workload: Full-time (100%) About the Role As part of a multidisciplinary team of data and integration specialists, you will contribute to the development of data pipelines, integration services, and platform capabilities. The role combines hands-on engineering work with collaboration on platform architecture, automation, monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will work with cloud-based and containerized technologies to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing data flows across various systems and services. The position also includes supporting analytics and reporting initiatives through data modeling and visualization solutions. Main Responsibilities Develop and maintain data ingestion, transformation, and processing pipelines. Build and optimize scalable data solutions using modern data engineering practices. Configure and manage integrations between multiple systems and platforms. Contribute to deployment automation, monitoring, and operational excellence. Support reporting and business intelligence initiatives through data preparation and visualization. Collaborate with architects, developers, and data specialists to improve platform capabilities. Ensure solutions follow security, governance, and quality standards. Participate in troubleshooting, performance optimization, and continuous improvement activities. Required Qualifications Advanced experience in data engineering and platform development. Strong background in Python-based data processing and transformation solutions. Practical experience working with Apache Spark for large-scale data handling. Experience developing solutions on containerized platforms based on Kubernetes. Knowledge of version control and modern development practices using Git. Experience working with Microsoft Fabric environments. Strong understanding of relational databases and SQL-based development. Ability to communicate effectively in Swedish, both verbally and in writing. Meritorious Experience Experience with Delta Lake and object storage technologies. Knowledge of orchestration and workflow automation tools such as Apache Airflow. Experience implementing DevSecOps practices within container platforms. Hands-on experience developing and publishing Power BI reporting solutions. Familiarity with data warehouse concepts and layered architectures. Previous work within public sector organizations, municipalities, or regional authorities. Relevant Microsoft certifications within data analytics or data platform technologies.
